<I think she sleeps.>

<Does she? I am not certain.>

“I am not asleep,” the human woman mumbled. “I am only resting my eyes.”

<She heard me.>

<Did you mean her to?>

<No.>

<Ah. Perhaps she is talking in her sleep. Some humans do.>

“But I do not.”

The woman stirred and almost fell off the log.

“Whoops,” she said, blinking rapidly and flailing her arms. “That’s better,” she said, chuckling as she steadied herself.

Looking around, she gazed past them as though they were not standing on either side of her, leaning over, staring at her. She seemed to absently search for something up her sleeve while she examined her surroundings. After a little hunting, a hideous object came into their view.

<Iron!>

<I feel it. How horrid it feels. Where is it?>

<On the female’s wrist. An ornament.>

<Does she know about us?>

<Look out, she is stretching!>
